MF14: Sketches of Shalden c. 1836
The views of Shalden, available as postcards at the Church in recent years, are thought to date to 1836 and to have been drawn by Francis Augustus Halliday. He was a frequent visitor to Shalden Rectory during his courtship of Catherine White, third daughter of the Rector.
David Menzies of Horsley, Shalden, in 1996, records that they were loaned to him in the original sketchbook, following a chance meeting in Bentworth Church by the owner (unknown), and he was able to have them printed as notelets for sale in the Church.
